A Celebration of Life was held for Arthur “Art” Zielinski, age 87 of Henning, on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Henning with Fr. LeRoy Schik officiating. The Urn bearers were: Zach Zielinski and Zoey Zielinski. The pallbearers were: Aaron Zielinski, Chad Gearey, Brett Hallberg, Ian Hallberg, and Isaac Hallberg. The honorary pallbearers were: Mark Mohlin, Angel Herrera, Michael Illikainen, Ashley Gearey, Megan Mohlin, Alicia Hallberg-Herrera, Bailey Taylor, and Mark Taylor. Military Honors were provided by the Minnesota Army National Guard of Moorhead, Minn. Taps was provided by Art’s grandson, Isaac Hallberg. Art was laid to rest at St. Edward’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Henning.
Arthur “Art” Felix Zielinski was born on May 18, 1933 in Stevens Point, Wis. His parents were the late Theodore and Dalphia (Seim) Zielinski. Art graduated from Stevens Point High School with the class of 1950 and then was employed with the Soo Line Railroad as a telegraph operator. He enlisted and served in the United States Marines from 1954-1956. Art was employed with Globe Tool & Die in North East Minneapolis for 34 years.
On June 14, 1991 Art was united in marriage with Carol Idella Gunderson in Sisseton, S.D. They made their home in Blaine, Minn., retiring to Henning in 1995. During retirement, Art enjoyed part time work with Surge, driving school bus, along with custodial work for the Henning Public School and was the maintenance supervisor at Clement Manor of Henning for 15 years.
Art loved his faithful Yorkshire companion, Mac, carpentry, reading, watching “Gun Smoke,” gardening, polka music, and dancing.
On September 2, 2020 Art passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice at his home in rural Henning at 87 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Art in death were his parents, Theodore and Dalphia Zielinski; brother, Erik (Avis) Zielinski and infant daughter.
Art is survived by: wife Carol; son Aaron (Cori) Zielinski of Rochester, Minn.; daughter LouAnn (Dan) Carlson of Andover, Minn.; step-daughters Laurie (Chad) Gearey of Shakopee, Minn., Amy (Brett) Hallberg of Battle Lake; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters with many other relatives and friends.
